Early in 1913, several families realized the need of a Church in the southern area of Winston-Salem. They met in a grove near the south end of Urban Street and then moved to an empty house close by. The congregation was known as “The Church of Christ Mission.”
They quickly outgrew the space and leading members along with Fourth Street Church of Christ worked together to construct a new building. The congregation, now known as the Urban Street Church of Christ, began worshipping in its new building on Sunday, June 14, 1914.
